The Golf Performance Academy proudly congratulates former student Jake Portugal on his impressive win at the 22nd Russell C. Palmer Cup, hosted by the Connecticut State Golf Association at Wampanoag Country Club. With unwavering determination and a steady mindset, Portugal showcased the grit and focus that exemplifies the values taught here at The Academy.
Known for its challenging layout and fast-paced greens, Wampanoag delivered tough conditions throughout the tournament. The rising Fairleigh Dickinson University junior delivered a composed and focused performance across all three rounds, finishing with a total score of 209 (+2). It marked a defining moment in his amateur career—and a major milestone that speaks to his years of preparation, development, and mental toughness.
“This win is huge,” said Portugal following the victory. “It’s my first real amateur win. I think it’s going to boost my summer immensely and it’s going to put me on a good track for college in the fall.” CSGA
