GPA is proud to boast five affiliated players who have each qualified for either the Connecticut Amateur, the Russell Palmer Cup, or both. Two athletes, including one alum, have also qualified for the U.S. Open Final Qualifying Stage.
The Connecticut Amateur is a state amateur championship held at a different course around Connecticut each year. It is the oldest state amateur competition in the United States after its inception in 1899. The tournament begins with two qualifying rounds of stroke play, with the top 32 players then advancing on to match play until a champion is crowned.
The Russell C. Palmer Cup is one of 20 championships organized by the Connecticut State Golf Association, or CSGA. Named after the former CSGA Executive Director and 1997 inductee into the Connecticut Golf Hall of Fame Russell C. Palmer, the 54-hole event is played over the course of two days, with 36 holes on the second day.
