Three GPA athletes competed this week in the PKBGT/Notah Begay III Girls National Championship, a 54-hole stroke play event held at Koasati Pines at Coushatta, Louisiana. Representing us were Arabella Lopez and Colomba Vassallo Tuset in the Girls 16–18 division, and Cristina Alvarez in the Girls 14–15 division.
Cristina delivered a very solid performance, finishing T15 after closing with a strong final round of one over par. Colomba led the team with an excellent showing, finishing T7 at +4 total for the tournament. She displayed impressive consistency and focus throughout the week, sticking to her process and managing her game exceptionally well.
Colomba’s success extended beyond the main event — she also captured titles in both the Long Drive Competition and the Putting Challenge, showcasing her all-around skill and composure under pressure.
The course setup at Koasati Pines was outstanding, with fast greens and cool morning conditions challenging the field on two of the three days. Despite practice facility and logistical challenges, the players gave their best and represented the academy with great effort and professionalism.
It’s inspiring to witness how competitive junior golf continues to grow worldwide — the talent level and dedication on display were truly impressive!
