On Monday, at the IMG Junior World Qualifiers, both Maya Gaudin and Olivia Zamarripa finished first in their respective divisions. Maya placed first for the Girls 13-14 division and Olivia tied with Rye, New York’s Isabella Salerno in the Girls 15-18 category.
Maya finished with a total score of 13 over par, 13 shots ahead of the second place finisher Alyssa Paine from Scituate, Mass. Maya finished with 1 birdie, 7 pars, 8 bogeys, 1 double bogey, and 1 quadruple bogey, with a 7 over front and 6 over back, all leading to a final score of 85. By par, The East Falmouth, Mass. native ended even on her par 3’s, 11 over on par 4’s, and 2 over on par 5’s.
For Olivia’s round, she was able to secure a 1 over par, shooting 1 over on the front and even on the back. The Albuquerque, New Mexico native made a total of 4 birdies, 13 pars, and 5 bogeys, finishing with a final score of 73, one stroke ahead of third place, Lucy Wang from Concord, Mass. Through her qualifying round, Olivia ended one under on par 3’s, 3 over on par 4’s, and one under on par 5’s.
The two qualifiers move on to the Championships in California. Maya will be competing in the Girls 13-14 division championship at the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo in San Diego, Calif., while Olivia heads to the Torrey Pines- North Course, co-host of the Farmers Insurance Open, in La Jolla for the Girls 15-18 division championship.
